Lactobacillus and Saccharomyces fermentation products impact performance and the fecal microbiome in weanling pigs inoculated with enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli.
We explored the effects of Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation products on weanling pigs that were challenged with a harmful strain of bacteria known as enterotoxigenic F4 Escherichia coli (F4-ETEC). To better understand this, we conducted a detailed study involving eighty pigs, which were divided into five groups based on different diets. This included a control diet, as well as diets supplemented with various fermentation products and zinc oxide.
After inoculating the pigs with F4-ETEC to simulate infection, we observed significant changes in the pigs’ fecal microbiome when they were given a combination of Lactobacillus and Saccharomyces products. These changes in the microbiome were previously linked to better growth performance and overall health in young pigs.
Interestingly, the pigs receiving both Lactobacillus acidophilus and Saccharomyces cerevisiae products showed an increase in final live weight. This suggests that using these postbiotics could help manage performance issues associated with ETEC without needing to eliminate the bacteria entirely from the pigs' environment. Therefore, while Lactobacillus acidophilus was not the sole hero in this study, its combined use proved beneficial in combatting the negative effects of this bacterial challenge.

If you own an English Bulldog, you need these! Our rescue bulldog had severe skin issues and was on antibiotics for a bacterial infection for six months. While the antibiotics worked, the symptoms returned soon after we stopped them. After some trial and error with the pearls, I saw improvement—his eyes and nose stopped running, and the staining cleared up remarkably. I’m now on my second box, and his appearance has improved dramatically, with no more staining or licking issues. These pearls seem to effectively address the bacteria causing the staining.

Wish I had known about these sooner! These capsules really work. I started using them for vaginal health and IBS, and they've made a difference. Since using this product, my vaginal infections have significantly decreased—previously, I encountered a bacterial infection every month. Tired of antibiotics, I sought a natural solution, and probiotics seemed to be helping others. Though I take these alongside digestive enzymes, they’ve improved my IBS and possibly even dandruff. For the price and quantity, I believe these will be a regular part of my life.
